LCD vs OLED

What’s the Difference?

Not all replacement screens are the same. Here’s everything you need to know about LCD and OLED technology, so you can choose the right option for your iPhone.

LCD vs OLED phone screen technology comparison

LCD Screens

Why choose LCD?
LCD replacement screens are a more affordable option and use reliable, proven display technology. They offer good brightness and have less risk of permanent screen burn.

Things to consider
Compared with OLED, colours can appear less vibrant and blacks tend to look more grey. LCD panels are also slightly thicker and, on iPhones originally designed for OLED, may use more battery and sometimes feel less responsive to touch.

OLED Screens

Why choose OLED?
OLED screens produce richer colours, true blacks and much higher contrast because each pixel creates its own light. They’re thinner, generally more energy efficient and provide the smooth, responsive display experience intended for newer iPhones.

Things to consider
OLED replacement screens cost more than LCD alternatives and can be more susceptible to screen burn over time. However, for an iPhone originally fitted with OLED, we normally recommend staying with OLED for the best overall display performance.

BEST FOR VALUE

Choose LCD if…

You want to keep the cost of your repair down and are happy to compromise slightly on colour, contrast and display performance. A good-quality LCD can be a sensible choice for an older iPhone or a phone you don’t intend to keep long term.
BEST EXPERIENCE

Choose OLED if…

Your iPhone originally came with an OLED display and you want it to look and perform as closely as possible to the original. OLED provides deeper blacks, richer colours, better contrast and generally better power efficiency.
Our RecommendationIf your iPhone was originally manufactured with an OLED screen, we normally recommend replacing it with OLED. Where different screen grades are available, we’ll explain the options and prices clearly so you can choose the screen that’s right for you.
